Bonfire Night to Christmas dinner: hosting for less with these kitchen and table deals

Roasting tin of potatoes and sausages on a table with holly plates, fireworks through the window

Bonfire Night is on Thursday 5 November this year, which means most organised displays will run over the weekend before and after. Whether you are feeding friends before the fireworks or already planning Christmas dinner, now is a good time to fill any gaps in your kitchen, before the December rush.

For Bonfire Night

Keep food simple and warm: a tray of sausages, roasted vegetables and jacket potatoes can all go in the oven together. A large roasting tin is the one piece of kit that makes this easy. If you are watching the fireworks from your own garden, a heated cushion or a battery-powered heated shawl keeps you warm without lighting a fire pit.

For Christmas dinner

  • Count your plates now. If you are hosting more people than usual, a 12-piece dinner set is far cheaper than buying plates one at a time.
  • Get the right roasting tins. You need one big tin for the meat and at least one more for potatoes and vegetables. Nesting tins save cupboard space for the rest of the year.
  • Choose a festive design you will use again. Holly and woodland patterns feel seasonal but still work through the winter.

Hosting tip: do a test roast in your new tins before the big day. Every oven is different, and you will learn how long your potatoes really need.
